League One as it stands

Wigan have all but assured promotion to the Championship and could win the League One title if they win at and fail to beat Gillingham on Saturday.

After beating last night Walsall are up to third place and have moved to within three points of The Brewers. John Whitney’s side will be hoping to further close the gap when they face struggling Fleetwood at the Bescot Stadium.

and Bradford are both looking increasingly comfortable in the play off positions but the race for the final spot is being battled out by six different teams.

Barnsley are currently clinging onto  6th place by one point and Lee Johnson’s side will be hoping to put a bit of daylight between themselves and the chasing pack when they face already relegated at the weekend.

Seventh placed Gillingham will be hoping to reverse their end of season slump against Burton, whilst fellow play off challengers Scunthorpe and face off  in a crucial clash.

Sheffield United and Rochdale also have an outside chance of making the play offs but will need to beat Coventry and Swindon respectively and hope other results go in their favor to stay in contention.

At the other end of the table have given themselves a fighting chance of survival after winning two of their last three league games.

Darren Ferguson’s side are three points away from safety and are likely to need a result at to keep themselves in with a chance of completing the great escape.

Meanwhile Blackpool are two points adrift of safety and face the formidable task of facing Wigan in the lunchtime kick off.

If Neil McDonald’s side fall to a defeat on Saturday, Fleetwood could confine the Tangerines to back to back relegations if they pull of a result at Walsall.

Finally, Chesterfield and Shrewsbury are both four points above the drop zone. They could secure their status if they beat Bury and respectively.
