After a disciplinary commission decided nine was enough, it makes more sense for the Blues to swallow their medicine.
Twelve points would have left Garry Monk’s men just two points off the relegation zone in the midst of a fourmatch losing streak.
Now, they will have a five-point buffer. With matches against three of the top four coming up, safety is by no means assured.
