COVENTRY City’s hopes of retaining their Checkatrade Trophy crown have been dashed – despite the Sky Blues winning their final group match.
Mark Robins’ men beat West Brom U21s 2-1 at home in Northern Group E on Tuesday thanks to goals from Ben Stevenson and Max Biamou, but Walsall’s 1-0 victory at already-qualified Shrewsbury made it academic.
