Paul Ince is among the contenders to take charge at Salford City after the League Two strugglers sacked Neil Wood.
The former Manchester United and England captain has been touted for the job alongside ex-Grimsby boss Paul Hurst.
Former Charlton manager Dean Holden is another leading contender for the hotseat.
Ince, 56, began his managerial career with Macclesfield in 2006 before stints at MK Dons, Blackburn, Notts County and Blackpool.
