Oli Hawkins has admitted that he was a “bit surprised” to be recruited by Gillingham as a striker - after spending 15 months playing at centre-back for Mansfield.
But the 6ft 6in, 30-year-old is now relishing being a “focal point” at the top end of the pitch as the Gills continue to plot a route away from the lower reaches of the League Two table.
