Grimsby Town shot-stopper Max Crocombe has admitted watching ex-Oxford United team-mate Emi Martinez lift the World Cup was an “inspirational” sight for both him and the entire goalkeeping community.
Martinez, then 19, prevented an 18-year-old Crocombe from making his senior debut for Oxford back in 2012 when he was drafted in on an emergency loan from Arsenal.
It’s a decision Crocombe now finds a little easier to live with after Martinez was awarded the Golden Glove for his contribution to Argentina’s Qatar triumph.
