DON Masson arrived at QPR hoping to prove that he could play alongside some of the best players in the country – and came within 14 minutes of lifting the title.
That is how close the west London side came to winning the ultimate domestic prize.
Masson had captained Notts County to three promotion successes, but his career hit a glass ceiling and he became the final piece of the jigsaw in Rangers’ greatest ever side when he joined in late 1974.
