PORT Vale started life under new manager Neil Aspin with a defeat as they came up short against Grimsby Town.
Aspin, who made 348 appearances for Vale in the 1990s, was appointed on Wednesday following the departure of Michael Brown.
Despite taking the lead through Tom Pope, goals from Sam Jones and Siriki Dembele ensured Aspin will have to wait for his first win in charge of the Valiants.
