Goalkeeper
Jamie Stephens (Barnet)
Despite finishing on the losing side at Kenilworth Road, Jamie Stephens can hold his head up high. He made a number of stops but the pick of the bunch was probably when the 22-year old did brilliantly to palm away Cameron McFeehan’s long range effort to keep the score at 1-0.
Defenders
Alex Lawless (Luton)
Alex Lawless put in a commanding display on Saturday to prevent a strong Barnet attack from really challenging the Luton goal. Lawless has been at Luton since 2011 and has made well over 100 appearances for the club.
Troy Brown (Exeter)
Exeter’s commanding center back Troy Brown almost led to his side to a crucial victory over Crawley at St James Park on Saturday. The Grecians looked to be on course for all three points but were cruelly denied when Luke Rooney hit a stunning 30-yard lob to rescue a point for Crawley.
Mark McChrystal (Bristol Rovers)
Mark McChrystal helped Bristol Rovers to an impressive clean sheet against Keith Curle’s Carlisle side. The 31-year old center back made a number of important interceptions as Rovers came away as 2-0 victors.
Blair Adams (Mansfield)
Mansfield’s left back came close to being the architect of a Mansfield equalizer at Sixfields on Saturday when his cross was headed onto the bar by Matt Green. Adams is currently on a one-month loan at Mansfield from fellow League Two side Notts County.
Midfielders
Kemar Roofe (Oxford)
Kemar Roofe started the move that led to Oxford’s winning goal in the Boat Race Derby against Cambridge. Roofe played the ball to Alex McDonald, who squared it for Ryan Taylor to slot the ball home past a diving Chris Dunn. Roofe has had a brilliant season so far, scoring 10 goals in all competitions.
Yan Klukowski (Newport)
Newport battled to a brave draw at high flying Accrington on Saturday. Klukowski opened the scoring after 54 minutes when he brilliantly curled in a half-volley from the edge of the box. The 28-year old joined Newport in 2014 from Forrest Green Rovers, where he made 160 appearances.
Graham Carey (Plymouth)
Graham Carey hit Plymouth’s second goal of the afternoon as the table-toppers beat York 2-1 at Bootham Crescent. The 26 year old started and finished the move as he played a delightful pass to Gregg Wylde on the left hand side who then cut the ball back to the edge of the box for Carey to smash home.
Chris Whelpdale (Stevenage)
The former Gillingham man played a pivotal role as Stevenage grabbed a point at fellow strugglers Yeovil. Whelpdale’s performance was a bright note for Teddy Sheringham’s side at a damp Huish Park. The 28 year old made over 100 appearances for both Peterborugh and Gillingham.
Strikers
Matt Taylor (Bristol Rovers)
Matt Taylor grabbed both goals for Bristol Rovers on Saturday. For his first, the 25-year old smashed home a close range shot from a Chris Lines cross, before sealing the win three minutes from time with a low left-footed drive from the corner of the box, which gathered pace on the saturated surface.
Josh McQuoid (Luton)
The 25-year old Northern Ireland international put in a man of the match display to help Luton to a 2-0 victory over Martin Allen’s Barnet on Saturday. The 25-year old Northern Ireland international set up the Hatters‘ opening goal when he burst forward to tee up Matt Green who lashed his shot past Jamie Stephens from the edge of the box.
Manager of the Month
Chris Wilder (Northampton)
Despite the financial turmoil that seems to have engulfed Northampton this season, Chris Wilder’s side have had a brilliant start to the season. Saturday’s 1-0 win over Mansfield helped Northampton to move up to 3rd place in the table.
