DEFENDER Leon McSweeney will leave Carlisle United when his current contract expires on January 4, 2014.
The 29-year-old signed for the Cumbrians on a four-month deal in September and has since made 10 appearances at right-back.
However, the former Stockport County, Hartlepool and Leyton Orient man is behind Pascal Chimbonda in the pecking order at Brunton Park and United also have another option at right-back in the form of Brad Potts.
That has led Cumbrians boss Graham Kavanagh to decide against renewing McSweeney’s deal, as he explained to the club’s website: “We’re in a situation where we can’t carry three right backs and Leon was very understanding when I spoke to him.
“I’d like to thank him for his services and it goes without saying that we wish him all the very best when he moves on at the start of the new year.”
