Barnsley will not be renewing the contract of striker Simeon Jackson, who will leave the club when his deal expires on 3 January.
Manager Lee Johnson also confirmed the club will not be taking up options to buy Conor Wilkinson, on loan from Bolton, or Michael Smith, on loan from Swindon, and the pair will return to their parent clubs by 5 January.
Canadian international Jackson has made 9 appearances since joining the Tykes in September – the majority from the bench.
Of Wilkinson and Smith, only the Bolton man has scored netting against Chesterfield in the 3-1 defeat on the season’s opening day.
Elsewhere in 19th-place Barnsley’s squad, full-back Reece Wabara is on the verge of leaving the club with his contract set to expire on New Year’s Eve, though Lee Johnson is eager to secure the former Doncaster man.
