Goalkeeper
Jon McLaughlin (Burton Albion)
McLaughlin made two outstanding saves to prevent Oldham from scoring at Boundary Park on Saturday. First, the 28-year-old was on hand to tip Jay Fulton’s looping header over the bar before turning Dominic Poleon’s strong effort wide of the post. McLaughlin made 45 appearances for Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s side during their promotion campaign last season.
Defenders
Chris Hussey (Bury)
The 26-year-old was directly involved in three of Bury’s four goals against Blackpool on Saturday. The defender scored his first goal of the season when he beat Colin Doyle with a pinpoint free kick to put Bury 3-1 up after 27 minutes. Hussey joined The Shakers on a permanent deal in July 2014, having previously spent time on loan with the club.
David Love (Wigan)
David Love was part of a resilient Wigan defense that did well to keep Swindon at bay on Saturday. The 20 year-old joined the Latics on loan from Manchester United and has since made four appearances for the club
Cedric Evina (Doncaster)
The former Charlton man put in another impressive performance as he helped Doncaster to a 2-0 win over Colchester United. Evina joined Doncaster in July 2014 and has made 31 league appearances for the Rovers so far.
Rico Henry (Walsall)
Henry’s excellent last minute cross was volleyed home by Jason Demetriou to give Walsall a dramatic winner against Gillingham on Saturday. The 18-year old left-back has flourished this season and was rewarded for his good form with a new three-year contract last month.
Midfielders
Ryan Colclough (Crewe)
Colclough’s fantastic second-half volley was Crewe’s first goal in four games and secured Alexandra just there third league win of the season. The 20-year old came through the youth team at Crewe and has made 32 first-team appearances for the Cheshire club, scoring five goals.
Ryan Leonard (Southend)
The 23 year-old put Southend 2-0 up against Rochdale on Saturday when he collected a pass from Stephen
McLaughlin before stroking a low, right-footed shot into the bottom left hand corner of the net. Leonard joined Southend from Plymouth Argyle in 2011 and has since made well over 100 appearances for the Shrimpers.
Shaun Williams (Millwall)
The midfielder came close to securing Millwall all three points against Bradford at the New Den on Saturday when his goal-bound strike from the edge of the area was tipped over the bar by the Bantams keeper Ben Williams just 16 minutes from time. The Irish midfielder joined The Lions in 2014 from MK Dons and has scored four goals in 66 appearances for the South London club.
Ben Gladwin (Swindon)
Despite ending up on the losing side on Saturday, Ben Gladwin can come away from the DW Stadium with his head held high. The midfielder put in a strong performance and was unlucky not to score when his effort from the edge of the box struck the post.
Strikers
Adam Armstrong (Coventry)
League One’s top scorer was on target again as he scored twice in Coventry’s 3-2 victory over Peterborough. Both of Armstrong’s goals came in the last 10 minutes as Coventry came from behind to record a stunning victory. For his first, Armstrong neatly finished after latching onto Jacob Murphy’s pass and with just three minutes left on the clock the Newcastle loanee struck Coventry’s winner when he brilliantly turned past Ricardo Santos and slotted the ball beyond Ben Alnwick.
Gary McSheffrey (Scunthorpe)
The veteran striker grabbed Scunthorpe’s second goal of the afternoon to secure The Iron’s victory over struggling Barnsley on Saturday. The 33-year old raced into the penalty area to meet Scott Wiseman’s cross four minutes before half time. McSheffrey joined Scunthopore in January 2014 and helped the club secure promotion that year.
