Sheffield Wednesday have signed free agent Urby Emanuelson after he was released by Serie A side Hellas Verona.
The versatile 30-year-old, who came through the fabled youth ranks at Ajax and went on to play for AC Milan, Fulham and Roma, is best deployed as a left-winger, but also has experience at left-back and in central midfield positions.
Emanuelson has also represented Holland throughout the age groups, winning the under-19 and under-21 World Cups and winning 16 caps for the first team.
He is now ready for a new challenge in England‘s second tier, and said: “The Championship is new to me but I know it is a long season, with lots of games and a lot of competition.
“It is a tough division but I hope I can help the team and show the fans what I’m all about.
Having played at some of Europe’s biggest clubs, Emanuelson won’t be daunted at representing a side of Wednesday‘s stature, and is raring to get going.
Emanuelson said: ““It feels great to sign for a big club like Sheffield Wednesday and I’m very happy with the opportunity. I’m hoping to show my quality and help the team do well this season.
“I’m looking forward to getting started and I know it will be a long season and that’s exactly what I need.”
Emanuelson will now go straight into Carlos Carvalhal‘s squad for the visit of Wigan on Saturday.
