On the face of it, Doug King’s decision to purchase an 85 percent stake in Coventry City doesn’t make much sense.
Running a club in the Championship is a loss-making exercise and Coventry don’t even own their own stadium. With rent and everything else, they are probably losing money by playing there.
But someone like King has been very successful in business. He’s no mug and he wouldn’t be there if he didn’t see an opportunity. That might be about the branding, the size of the fanbase, exposure for his other ventures or something else entirely.
