Derby County manager Phillip Cocu is ‘hanging on by a thread’ to his job following last night’s 1-0 defeat to Huddersfield, according to reports in the Netherlands.
The Rams have only one win to their name in the Championship this season and have now failed to score in their past two match after defeat at John Smith‘s Stadium.
In fact, Derby has mustered a meagre two goals in their six outings so far, placing Cocu under severe pressure.
Dutch outlet AD are now reporting that Cocu will need a make or break win over fierce rivals Nottingham Forest on Friday to save his job.
In a recent interview with The Telegraph, Derby owner Mel Morris eased the pressure on Cocu by accepting a string of injuries coupled with the absence of Wayne Rooney have been factors affecting the side’s form.
“Of course we are concerned about the lack of points, as is the manager,” said Morris.
“But when you look at the cards we’ve been dealt this season, it’s hardly surprising that results have been poor.
“Does he have our support? Yes, we have got to be realistic about the challenges he faces. This is not about a lack of tactics, or effort on the training field, or those things.”
County sit 21st in the Championship with the join-second worst defensive record in the league.
