Every season we see a plethora of up and coming youngsters
from the Premier League shipped out on loan to the Championship to get some
much-needed experience and game time.
The experiment is often a make or break time for the player
as they bid to show their parent club they are worth top-flight game time the
following season.
A stint in the lower leagues has never done the likes of
David Beckham, John Terry, Frank Lampard, and Ashley Cole any harm, so who are
the current crop of Premier League loanees trying to impress their parent club
for a crack at the big-time next season? And who would we like to see given a
chance next season?
Josh Onomah
–Tottenham Hotspur on loan at Sheffield Wednesday
The Lilywhites are a club well known for not just producing an
impressive conveyor belt of talented youth stars, but of also giving them a
chance.
Harry Kane is the most recent high-profile example of this
after spending time on loan at Millwall before single handily dismantling the
Premier League.
21-year-old English midfielder Josh Onomah is hoping he can
use Championship outfit Sheffield Wednesday as a launch pad to the Spurs first
team next season and the signs are good.
After making his debut against Burnley for Tottenham in
2015, Onomah has been on the cusp of the first team and is close to making the
grade.
Last season the England Under 21 representative made 37
appearances for Aston Villa scoring four times whilst this season he has
featured 12 times for the Owls in a topsy turvy season for the club.
New manager Steve Bruce looks set to entrust some
responsibility into Onomah as he looks to push on and give Mauricio Pochettino
no reason to go back into the transfer market this summer.
Cameron
Carter-Vickers – Tottenham Hotspur on loan at Swansea
Defender Cameron Carter-Vickers won high praise from Chris
Wilder and Mick McCarthy during loan spells at Sheffield United and Ipswich
last season.
The USA International has proven to be a valuable asset this
season for Swansea making sixteen appearances and is close to the first team at
Spurs.
So much so in fact, he was handed a new contract at the
Lilywhites last summer tying him to the club until 2021.
Expect to see Carter-Vickers back in the Tottenham fold very
soon.
Harry Wilson –
Liverpool on loan at Derby County
Liverpool winger Harry Wilson will almost certainly be
featuring for the Reds next season in the Premier League after taking the
Championship by storm this season with Derby County.
The 21-year-old has had loan spells at Crewe Alexandra and
Hull City prior switching to Derby at the start of the season and after 31
games and 12 goals for the Rams, it is not hard to see why Jurgen Klopp refuses
to let go of his man.
The Welsh international’s free kicks have been legendary
this season(just ask Manchester United) and with two goals to his name for
Wales, Wilson is Premier League just waiting to happen.
Who would we like to
see out on loan next season?
One player has had rotten luck this season and that is
Tottenham’s Luke Amos.
The 21-year-old midfielder only signed a new contract with
the Lilywhites at the start of the season making an appearance in the 2-1 win
over Newcastle before rupturing
his ACL during a Premier League 2 match against Blackburn Rovers.
If there is any player who deserves a chance to get back to
playing it is Amos and we hope to see him back out on loan next season.
