Cambridge United manager Shaun Derry has attempted to distance himself from the vacant managerial position at Gillingham, instead stating that he is focused on his own side.
The League One outfit have been searching for a new manager since they parted ways with Ady Pennock on 25 September, and Derry has recently moved ahead of the likes of Nobby Solano and Chris Powell in the betting odds.
But Derry, who has done a commendable job with the U’s since taking over in November 2015, has insisted that he is not listening to any speculation.
“It’s like a broken record – I can only say what I said last week,” he told the Cambridge News.
“Speculation will always, always travel around football constantly. I’m sat here as the manager of Cambridge enjoying my job.
“It’s one of them situations where I just don’t look into it. I just come in, do my job, look forward and try to prepare the best possible for Saturday.
“When you can really clear your head that way it really helps you with the role that you’ve got, and I think I’m good at that. It’s part of the game, you get it at every level.”
Derry’s Cambridge team have fallen to 12th in the League Two table in recent weeks, with a 3-0 triumph over Forest Green Rovers sandwiched between defeats at Mansfield and Swindon.
