Huddersfield‘s David Wagner has been awarded the Championship‘s Manager of the Month award for August, as the Terriers look to record their best ever start to the season at Leeds tomorrow.
Wagner, once a colleague of Jurgen Klopp at Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund, has overseen a massive turn of events at the West Yorkshire club, who have gone from relegation favourites to early pacesetters in The Championship.
They played five, and won four, during an awesome August that has led them to the top of the table ahead of the trip to Elland Road tomorrow.
With notable wins away at Newcastle and at home to then unbeaten Wolves, as well as their only dropped points being a hard fought draw at Aston Villa, the start Wagner’s side has made has been stunning.
The German said: “I accept the August Manager of the Month award on behalf of every player, member of staff and everyone else connected with Huddersfield Town.
“Everyone here has worked unbelievably hard during pre-season and during August and they have earned the results that the team enjoyed.”
But despite tomorrow being a potentially historic day for the Terriers, as they attempt to better the starts made by the Town sides of 1924 and 1952, Wagner is making sure his side are keeping their feet firmly on the ground.
He said: “We are workers, not dreamers, so nobody here is getting carried away.
“You can never guarantee results in football, but we can guarantee that we will work as hard as possible to try and get more good results in September.”
There’s a long way to go yet, but tomorrow may not be the only time Huddersfield make history this season…
