Norwich City have had a £2.5m bid for winger Sergi Canos accepted by Liverpool, as they seek to fill the void left by Nathan Redmond.
The Canaries have matched a bid by Bristol City last week with the Spaniard now having the option of a move to Carrow Road over Ashton Gate – seemingly the preferred case as his representatives are yet to meet with the Robins for contract talks.
The 19-year-old looks destined for a move to the Championship with his contract at Anfield into its last year and problems arising from recent renewal talks. Where wage demands proved a stumbling block.
The former Barcelona academy player enjoyed a successful loan spell at Brentford last season which prompted Bees boss Dean Smith to say ‘We’d like to see Sergi Canos come back here next season’, after their last match of the campaign.
Canos made 40 appearances for Brentford, scoring 7 goals and turning provider on 4 occasions warranting interest from Norwich boss Alex Neil.
Buffered by the £11m Southampton paid for Redmond as well as parachute payments, Norwich are within easy reach to meet Canos’ £10,000 wage demands to add him to their enviable wing department that includes Robbie Brady, Matt Jarvis and the Murphy twins.
