Nottingham Forest manager Dougie Freedman has been relieved of his duties by chairman Fawaz Al-Hasawi.
Freedman's 13-month stay at the City Ground comes to an end after defeats to Huddersfield, Burnley, Bristol City, Ipswich and on Saturday against big spending Sheffield Wednesday.
Forest are in the same league position as they finished last season (14th) under the Scot, who managed the club under the constraints of a Financial Fair Play transfer embargo this campaign.
A club statement announced: “Nottingham Forest have terminated manager Dougie Freedman's contract with immediate effect.
“The club would like to thank Dougie for all of his efforts during his time at The City Ground.”
The statement also noted: “First-team coach Paul Williams will take over the management of the side until the end of the season.”
Former Derby County defender Williams has a short time to plan for Tuesday's trip to promotion chasing Hull City, a fixture which Forest lost 1-0 in their meeting earlier this season.
