The run-in is a very different time in a season. The stakes seem to become much higher and the consequences of winning and losing become much clearer.
Of course, games are still only worth three points. But it doesn’t always feel like that. The stark financial benefit of promotion and difficulty of relegation both loom large.
The thing that often gets said is that each game is ‘just another game’. But is it really? If three successive wins will save a club from relegation or two back-to- back victories will secure automatic promotion, is any of those games ‘just another game’? I don’t think...
