At the end of last season, the Premier League proudly announced that referees are now getting 96 per cent of decisions correct, versus just 82 per cent in the days before VAR.
Taken in isolation, that’s a very impressive statistic. But the jobsworths in Stockley Park can’t be viewed in isolation, can they?
VAR is - and probably always will be - a trade off between improved refereeing and spoiling the spectacle.
