Today, Dan Burn is a folk hero on Tyneside and one of the first names on Eddie Howe’s glittering Newcastle team-sheet. But it wasn’t always that way.
“I remember when we were in the youth team at Darlington, he had a job pushing trollies round the Asda car park,” laughs Michael Smith, the Sheffield Wednesday striker. “To see where he is today… he’s smashed it, hasn’t he?”
A decade on, the two Geordies remain close friends. Both are late bloomers who clawed their way up from humble north-east roots.
