Team-mates – Oldham Athletic captain Peter Clarke

Best mate?

We are quite a close- knit group but I get on well with Paul Green, Ryan Flynn and Connor Ripley in particular. There’s a good camaraderie so it’s nice to turn up to work and there’s a really positive outlook amongst the group.

Last to buy dinner?

There’s a strong rumour that Lee Croft is more often going backwards rather than coming forwards to pay a bill! It’s hearsay I’ll admit but I have noticed one or two little things around and about.

Worst dressed?

There’s a couple who think they are well dressed but I am not sure that they are. Jamie Reckord has some interesting gear, one or two of his colour combinations are questionable and he’s got these skin-tight jeans.

DJ in the dressing room?

It was Marc Klok, he seemed to be in charge of the music but others are now trying to impose themselves as they are not too keen on his tastes. He had Dutch stuff and you couldn’t tell what they were singing. There’s quite a wide spectrum now, from Bob Marley to U2 and everything in between.

Late for training?

Cameron Burgess and Lee Erwin on a couple of occasions have been close to the mark but we are trying to educate them to set their alarms earlier – otherwise they will be out of pocket. If they are late and it’s poor timekeeping there’s a fine system in place.

Teacher’s pet?

The gaffer is as good as gold. There’s no one person in particular who is a teacher’s pet. Most of the lads have a voice and they have a good relationship with the boss. He’s very fair and a good man-manager with those playing regularly and those not in the team. There’s no favouritism.

First on the dancefloor?

There’s one or two that don’t have the best moves. I think Ryan McLaughlin was in a boy band in a previous life. He can sing and dance, he’s got something about him on the dance floor, there’s co-ordination there. He does not mind on occasions shuffling his feet and keeping us entertained which is great.

Worst tattoo?

I have a couple on the outside of my legs that my kids have done, it seems to tickle the lads. My eldest daughter did a pink princess on one leg and it was the most pain I have ever experienced. My little boy did a blue car and both got their names. Sent-imentally it means a lot.

Partial to a sunbed?

I’m not sure yet. Over the coming months, when the weather turns and there’s no sunshine, it will be interesting to see if there are any tans that start standing out. When we are 6ft in snow they will give themselves away.

Best manager?

Ryan Flynn is a very thoughtful footballer. He thinks about how he and the team can do better. If it was what he focused on, I think he would make a decent job  of it.
