Referee Kevin Johnson has been let out of hospital after suffering a neck injury during Saturday’s League Two match between Plymouth and Colchester.
There was a 10-minute delay during the game as Johnson collided with Argyle midfielder Jimmy Spencer, and he left the pitch on a stretcher after physios from both club’s had treated him on the pitch.
Immediately after the game, Plymouth’s club doctor Paul Giles told the club’s official website: “We don’t have any major concerns about him [Johnson].
“There was a rumour that he had a fit – there were no fits. He was alert and talking right throughout the whole incident.
“There was an accidental collision and he was struck in the back and had a hyper-extension injury to his neck, and heard a click. He was alert; he was orientated; he didn’t lose consciousness.”
After suffering the injury, the Somerset-based official was kept overnight with neck ligament damage and blurred vision, but has now been discharged, although is expected to spend some time on the sidelines.
“He won’t be refereeing for the next few weeks,” an English Football League spokesman said.
“His progress will be monitored and we wish him a speedy recovery.”
