Newcastle‘s ongoing search for a new striker has alerted several clubs to the availability of Adam Armstrong.
The England U19 international was in sensational form for Coventry at the start of last season, scoring five goals in the Sky Blues first three games, going on to end the season with a total of 20.
His goals have prompted interest from Bradford City, Coventry and a ‘host’ of Championship clubs, with one being Rotherham United.
Should Newcastle prefer not to loan the rising star to a divisional rival, Bradford have shown their hand by saying they regard him as a player ‘right at the top of our [transfer] list’.
In-demand Armstrong has featured on two occasions for Newcastle this season but was left out of the matchday squad for Saturday’s victory at Bristol City, and has been included in the Magpies development team’s game on Tuesday night to spur the number of suitors.
Toon boss Rafa Benitez commented on Armstrong’s future at the weekend, saying: “If we bring in a striker with more experience he will have a chance to go on loan. We still have to decide. I will talk with him on Sunday and see where we are.”
“I want to bring new players and allow some players to go and play so we have less. Then after August 31 we have everybody concentrated.”
Sources claim at least 12 clubs have noted Armstrong, 19, on their target list, as Armstrong waits his turn to become a St James’ Park home favourite with plenty of time to run on the long-term contract he signed in 2014.
