The Bristol City head coach, who left Oxford to take charge at Ashton Gate in November 2023, saw his current team come from behind to take the points.
Ruben Rodrigues fired Oxford in front in the 28th minute, but City were back on terms after 57 minutes through Sinclair Armstrong.
